BACnet International Releases BACnet Secure Connect Reference Implementation in Open Source

BACnet International has announced the public release into open source of the BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) Reference Implementation, a Java implementation of BACnet/SC. The Reference Implementation includes a System Test Bench which provides manufacturers with powerful and effective device and system test capabilities. BACnet International is an industry association that facilitates the successful use of the BACnet protocol in building automation and control systems through interoperability testing, educational programs and promotional activities.

The Reference Implementation was created by BACnet International in an effort to accelerate the adoption of BACnet/SC for the greater good of the building automation industry. It provides Building Automation System (BAS) providers with a quick way to ramp up their in-house BACnet/SC testing with a set of capabilities and scripts that can be used across multiple platforms. Included is a sophisticated Test Bench that enables rapid creation of multiple nodes and hubs to simulate complex network environments

“There is a lot of pressure on BAS manufacturers to bring products with BACnet Secure Connect capability to market,” stated Andy McMillan, president and managing director of BACnet International. “We’re happy to provide the Reference Implementation to help speed up the process of testing and, ultimately, launch.”

The Reference Implementation, along with the System Test Bench, were originally provided to participants as part of BACnet International’s BACnet/SC Interoperability Acceleration Program. This program provided BAS suppliers with the knowledge and skills necessary to incorporate BACnet/SC in their products and solutions and a fast track to developing in-house technical knowledge. The Reference Implementation was community-vetted in this program and is now available on Source Forge, the open-source repository, for download at sourceforge.net/projects/bacnet-sc-reference-stack.

About BACnet International

BACnet International is an industry association that facilitates the successful use of the BACnet protocol in building automation and control systems through interoperability testing, educational programs and promotional activities. BACnet International oversees operation of the BACnet Testing Labs (BTL) and maintains a global listing of tested products. The BACnet standard was developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and has been made publicly available so that manufacturers can create interoperable systems of products. BACnet International complements the work of the ASHRAE standards committee and BACnet-related interest groups around the world. BACnet International members include building owners, consulting engineers and facility managers, as well as companies involved in the design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of control equipment that uses BACnet for communication.
